Shop, wine and dine.
Markets are a way of life for the French and you have some great ones nearby to choose from. The daily markets in Cognac and Jarnac are open every morning until 1pm except Monday. Apart from the food sellers, they also offer little cafes to enjoy that morning coffee and croissant!
Another treasure we have is the marché de Tambourinour, just outside of Jarnac. This is a daily fruit and veg market (Summer) and Friday and Saturday in Winter. Every Friday afternoon it is also host to a superb Farmers market! A visit is a MUST! A highlight for us is the fantastic duck stall - a speciality of South West France.
In terms of eating out, you are spoilt for choice. Below are a just a few of our favourites but we have a much longer list for you on your arrival and we are happy to make reservations for you.
L’alambic - Jarnac
Our local café/restaurant in the main square of Jarnac at which you can enjoy a gorgeous menu du jour or à la carte such as the amazing seafood salad. An unbeatable menu du jour - 3 courses for under 15,00 euros!
This is also a great place at which you can enjoy the various French festivals such as the fête de la musique, le 14 juillet, as it organises live music as well as amazing dinners. Or, simply watch the world go by with a glass of wine or two!
Verre Y Table - Jarnac
For that special occasion, head to the Verre Y table. With a pleasant back terrace for those summer days, it offers a good set lunch menu and is perfect for it’s fine dining experience in the evenings. Various menus are available and it has an impressive choice of Cognacs to end the meal.
La Courtine - Cognac
Set on the banks of the river Charente in Cognac, this a lovely restaurant all year round. A large menu catering to all tastes you can choose from anything on the menu to make up your 3 courses - all for around 30 euros per head.
It has a big terrace to enjoy those lovely Summer nights.
La Poulpette - Cognac
Wow what a find !!This is a boutique restaurant, located in the heart of old Cognac. With a stylish interior and compact menu, we suggest the chef’s choice - three courses for 26 euros. Let your taste buds be swept away. Book early as extremely popular .
Graines et Garenne - Châteuneuf sur Charente
A new find for 2020 and WOW what a delight! Only 15 mins from 1854 Chassors, this is truly a dining experience. Great choice with either the menu du jour or à la carte.

Le Mas Charentais - Saint Simeux
Along with its scrumptious menu full of local produce, this restaurant simply has the best panoramic terrasse in all of Charente! Family run with Sylvie at front of house, enjoy a lovely lunch or evening meals.
Another highlight is live music at the weekend through the Summer season.
