About The Property
Built in 1854 and set in 5 acres, this former Cognac distillery is the perfect getaway, whether for holiday with friends or family or whilst on business. We are delighted to announce that 1854 Chassors has been awarded a 4 star classification by the French tourist board in 2019. As of January 2024, we are rated 9.9/10 on Booking.com and 5/5 on both VRBO and Airbnb for the fourth consecutive year.
Hidden behind high walls covered in vine and private gates, you and your family or friends can kick back, relax in one of our 2 luxury ground floor self catering gîtes, situated in the front courtyard and enjoy full use of the spacious grounds and facilities including heated pool, jacuzzi, gym and games room, covered barbecue area, volleyball, pétanque, badminton, swings, football area and so much more. Each gîte and the covered barbecue area and fitness area all have hi-speed wi-fi. We also accept dogs upon request.
Also a perfect location to enjoy a glass or two of the local Cognac, Pineau and wine whilst sampling the fantastic local French cuisine in the comfort of your own home away from home.
We are nestled in a small village surrounded by vineyards, only 4km and 10km respectively from the beautiful, historic towns of Jarnac and Cognac. The area is situated on the banks of the river Charente, offering a wealth of activities and picturesque French life and is also known worldwide as being “the nectar of the gods”. The latter due to this area being the sole producer of Cognac and the lesser known Pineau (fortified wine).
Having lived in France, UK and Australia and travelled extensively for business and pleasure, we know the importance of having everything to hand. This is truly a home from home with that something extra always on our mind.

Meet the Hosts
Let us introduce ourselves. We are Kevin and Barbara Allery and we will ensure your stay is one to remember. Barbara is English and fluent in French whilst Kevin is Australian and still working on his French!. Having made the leap in 2018 to chase our dream of living in France, we cannot recommend this beautiful region more highly. It is packed full of things to see and do whilst enjoying the second warmest climate in France . We are here to help you enjoy your holiday and can organise anything for you We are both passionate about fitness, food, cycling and wine (of course!).
Our Gardens and Orchard
Throughout the extensive front and rear walled gardens and orchard, enjoy the peace, privacy and security of 1854 Chassors. Each gîte has it’s own private outside dining area in addition to the communal covered barbecue area. Explore and enjoy!
Our Pool
The jewel in the crown. Brand new in April 2019, this stunning 8.5m x 4.5m heated salt water chlorinated pool is set within the walls of the former Cognac distillery. Great for all the family at 1.5 m depth with child secure glass enclosure, integrated walk in steps and shelf, this area also benefits from sun and shade areas throughout the day. Sunbeds surround the pool. Help yourself to a water mattress and jump in! We also have various toddler/baby armbands and swimming aids.
Our Relaxation Area
Switch from the pool to the heated jacuzzi or simply chill out on the sunbeds and deckchairs. Perfect!
Our Back Gardens, Pétanque Lawn & Orchard
Pétanque, a game similar to Lawn Bowls, is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and one of France's traditions. Boules provided. A great way to enjoy an apéro or two!
There is also a badminton/volleyball area and in the orchard there are swings and a football area with goals. All equipment provided.
Or simply relax and just enjoy the stunning vegetation in our chill out chairs. Keep a watch out for the red squirrels!
Our Games Room
The games room has table tennis, darts, babyfoot, skittles, frisbees, quoits and even giant Jenga and dominoes. There are also plenty of books (including colouring in books with pencils), DVDs for adults and children and board games to choose from. Additionally, you will find a free tennis court only 300m away so help yourself to the tennis rackets and balls.
Our Fitness Room
We have extensive gym equipment for you to take full advantage of, including a Proform running machine, 2 spin bikes, rowing machine, free weights, kettlebells, resistance bands, fitness balls, skipping ropes, ab roller and yoga mats. Need help for motivation, there are various exercise DVDs to choose from. Mountain and road bikes can also be hired including child bikes (from 6 yrs old). We also provide child seats.
